Community Energy: the benefit of Hopkinsville Electric System and TVA working together
Community Energy

Community Energy—In Hopkinsville, Ky., Our Power Means More

Our region is powered by a public power model — owned by and accountable to the people who live here. So the initiatives we invest in through our power model serve one purpose: helping our communities thrive.

Because we support public power, we all benefit from Community Energy. It’s the progress our model enables — like more job opportunities thanks to thriving and growing communities, outdoor recreation made possible by our protected lands, cleaner energy sources, and much more.

A Partnership of Service

Hopkinsville Electric System (HES) and TVA work together to power not just our homes and businesses, but our potential too — by combining efforts to help create a future we all believe in.

Working Together to Make Life in Our Community Better

Hopkinsville Electric System (HES) and TVA were founded on a mission to serve — through reliable and affordable energy, a safe and protected environment and thriving economic development.

HES provides electricity to 10,000 residential and 3,000 commercial and industrial customers in the city of Hopkinsville, located within Christian County in Southwest Kentucky.

Since TVA’s COVID-19 Community Care Fund grant program began in April 2020, HES and TVA have given $30,000 to local non-profit entities to provide assistance to those most impacted by the pandemic. Recipients included United Way of Pennyrile, Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library, the Salvation Army and the Christian County Rescue Team.

HES and TVA also worked together to provide lighting at the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park. The log cabin used as the Heritage Center of the Park is the original structure, although restored to include display cases for historical artifacts. It is located on a part of the campground once used by Cherokee Indians on the Trail of Tears.

Jeff Hurd, general manager of HES, says, “This project was a part of the Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County program that develops involved civic-oriented volunteer leaders in our community.

Our energy has fueled progress in our region since 1933. See the ways it's helping shape our future.
